An important part of keeping your pet healthy is to protect your pet against deadly parasites. Both dogs and cats can get heartworm disease. Fortunately we have monthly heartworm preventatives for both cats and dogs.

Cats and dogs can get fleas and ticks. Again, monthly topical medicines will protect your pet, and prevent infestations in you home. In addition, the stomach parasites are common for both cats and dogs. Yearly stool samples are important for parasite detection. For the dogs, the monthly heartworm pills have the dual purpose of preventing stomach parasites also. For the cats we suggest quarterly topical application of profender to deworm.

If you adopt a new pet, make sure you bring you r new pet into the veterinarian as soon as possible so we can insure you that you have a healthy pet, and can help you keep your pet as healthy as possible.

Take advantage of the warm weather in the summer and take your dog out for exercise and fresh air daily. Its best to walk early and late in the day when the weather is cooler, but never exercise your dog within a half hour of eating. Exercise for the cat is a far more difficult task. Finding a toy that your cat is interested in is a challenge. Balls to chase, and fishing poles to play with can be entertaining. Providing climbing areas can be very helpful. Remember that cats are meant to be hunters and would run, climb and hunt in the wild. For the indoor cat, exercise must be encouraged and the meals need to be apportioned.
